Upcoming SCF Event – Antitrust in the digital space

The Scottish Competition Forum is pleased to invite you to its Covid-19 quarantine webinar series from 5-7pm on Tuesday 9 June, continuing with a discussion on competition in the digital space.

Speakers will consider questions such as:

• Are competition authorities’ procedures too slow to make regulation effective? Do these processes need to be changed for this new world and, if so, in what respects?

• Is it really data that gives market power? If so, do competition authorities need new powers to tackle this?

• What impact has GDPR had on competition?

• Is the existing framework of competition law adequate to deal with the issues presented by platforms?

• What other changes to competition law need to be made in order to have a legislative framework fit for the 21st century?

The speakers will be Robin Noble, Dr Angela Day and Dr Konstantinos Stylianou. The webinar will be chaired by Dr Arianna Andreangeli.

Upcoming SCF Event – Responding to the Covid-19 outbreak

The Scottish Competition Forum is pleased to launch its Covid-19 quarantine webinar series, beginning with a discussion of the responses of enforcement authorities and others to the Covid-19 pandemic from 5-6pm on Tuesday 2 June.

In this webinar our speakers will discuss how the CMA is applying its range of tools during the pandemic, including new guidance on its approach to business cooperation in response to Covid-19 and merger assessments, as well as its work on cancellations and price gouging. We will also discuss the response of businesses – particularly online platforms – to demand during the COVID crisis, and what this response can tell us about the shape of demand and supply, and the boundaries of markets in the near future.
